As in almost everything, the anticipation of the event is almost as exciting as the actual event. So it was with Zombie Prom. I had thought about it and imagined it and when I actually saw the fruits of my imagination it brought a little tear to my eye. SNIFF!
This was my vision. My home was magically transformed into GRound Valley High School. (Our local High School is Round Valley High.) The front yard had graves with reaching zombie hands (my lovely zombie prom queen hand was made by pulling the sleeve off of a groundbreaker hand, painting it's nails and slipping on a 19 year old corsage, graciously donated by my sentimental daughter!), fog and the School sign.
As the Prom attendees arrived they were met at the door by a chaperon, Mr. Drown. Mr. Drown (appropriately attired in a dripping suit and sea weed) asked them for student ID or their Prom Tickets.
The front room and dining room were set up with food
tables and a more elegant decor. I tried to use a school theme throughout using old books, year books, glasses and globes.
The Food:
Zombie cookies
Spider Ding Dongs
Zombie Pops made from giant marshmallows with melted chocolate
hair and facial features drawn on with food color markers
Cookies & Creme Fudge Headstones and
Chocolate covered pretzel Zombie Fingers
Graveyard Gravel made from fudge, mint and cookies and creme fudge.
I want brains cupcakes
Screamin' Strawberries!
Dead Fingers-Gray shortbread
I just want your heart-raspberries and cream gelatin
Mortuary Mousse
Sinister Sweets
Bones & Blood-taquitos & salsa and bone shaped breadsticks & marinara
Severed fingers-cocktail wieners wrapped in crescent roll dough, olive fingernail
Forgotten fingers-string cheese with bell pepper fingernails
Creepy Cheesy Eyeballs-mini cheese balls with an olive slice iris
Tortured Toes- cocktail wiener with an almond slice toenail, wrapped in a tortilla bandage
Shaved Skin on Melon-prosciutto on cantaloupe
Melon Brain & Bleeding Heart Brie-Brie & cherry preserves wrapped in puff pastry
I've got my eye on you caprese salad
Jori enjoys some rotten ribs
The Gym:
The dance was held in the family room (the gym). It was a conglomeration of various things you'd find in a high school. My dear husband very happily hauled old lockers from his dad's barn to accommodate my vision.
They were decorated with wrestling posters, letterman sweater,
books, spider webs, pom poms and a bloody lunch bag.
The Principal's desk was decorated with his blood splattered picture and name plate,
year books and a gruesome letter pleading for help that was left in the typewriter.
Filing Cabinets
Trophy Case
We even had the requisite lost & found box
containing books, hoodies, hands, feet etc.
And of course the gym was festooned with lovely red and
black crepe paper streamers and helium balloons.
Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of
Zombie Prom the Party!
